Junior Internet - Opportunity for young Internet enthusiasts!

Are you 18 years old or younger, are you creative, full of ideas and interested in the Internet? Do you want to compare your abilities with other people of the same age, get to know a lot of new information about the Internet, gain useful contacts? Register on the Junior Internet project with your web sites, Internet projects, webdesigns or texts about the Internet! Junior Internet can be a springboard, which will introduce you to the world of successful young webdesigners, programmers, Internet journalists, project managers, & even teenage business persons!

Junior Internet was launched in 2000 in the Czech Republic, and has expanded to Hungary, Poland and Slovakia as well. It is open for all young people up to 18 years old, who use the Internet not only for fun, but for creating. Young people can enter the Internet competitions with their web pages, texts about the Internet & webdesigns. Participants of the competitions are then invited to a conference, where programmes are packed with lectures, presentations, discussions and competitions about the Internet. Winners of the competitions get valuable prizes and also the opportunity to present their projects at the conference not only in front of their peers, but also to journalists and IT specialists.

Competitions are organised in all four countries – the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. In 2010, conferences will take place during March in Prague, Wroclaw, Bratislava and Nagykanizsa. The final international symposium will be held in Bratislava, Slovakia from 27 to 29 March 2010.

Many winners of the Junior Internet competitions from previous years run successful Internet projects, work in the Internet media or even have their own business companies in the field of IT, while they are still studying at school.

All necessary information on how to join the project are available at the Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Slovak versions of the Junior Internet websites. The Junior Internet project is organised by young people themselves. The official coordinator of the project is a non-profit organisation called Together Czech Republic. The project is supported by the International Visegrad Fund and Adobe.

Junior Internet in Central Europe

Junior Internet has been organised since 2000 in the Czech Republic by young people themselves. In 2006, the project took place for the first time in the entire Visegrad area. Young people who are active on the Internet thus have the opportunity to meet, gain new contacts, carry out discussions about Internet in their countries and develop co-operation among themselves. In the Czech Republic, a community of practice has been created among those successful young people who run their own projects on the Internet. We want to build similar communities in the other countries of the Visegrad group, share our experience and make young people of our countries competitive in the world of the Information Society.

Statistical survey: "Internet and young people in Central Europe"

In the framework of the Junior Internet project, a statistical survey focusing on young people and the Internet takes place annually. All the participants of the Internet competitions from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia will answer several questions, which will then be evaluated and published. Thus, we have an unique opportunity to compare the relationship of young people to the Internet in the participating countries and also to compare the results from previous years.

Involvement of young people with disabilities

The Internet offers unbelievable and unique opportunities, especially to young people with disabilities. That is why the organisers of the Junior Internet project decided to involve the disabled young people in the projects as much as possible. They can register to the Internet competitions and if they submit an outstanding competition entry, the jury will award them with a special prize (as in the previous years). If needed, we will also ensure translation to the sign language and provide other assistance.

We are also looking for new partner organisations or youth groups from other countries which would be interested to join the project and organise it in their countries. Please contact us at info@juniorinternet.cz for more information.
